Description
One of the rarer engineering biographies, this "Sketch" is concerned with one of the major Stephenson engineers. Swanwick was George Stephenson's secretary during the Liverpool & Manchester period and was associated with most of the later Stephenson lines. As Stephenson's pupil he was entrusted with the whole planning and construction of the Whitby & Pickering and was also the resident engineer under Stephenson on the North Midland railway.
