Description
McAdam's influential treatise on his system of road making. First published in 1816 in Bristol it was enormously enlarged from 47 pages in the second edition (1819) to 196 pages in the third of which this sixth edition is a reprint. Included is a reprint of "Report of select committee on the highways of the Kingdom" of 1819 in which McAdam is the central witness and which calls for the abolition of turnpike trusts and the establishment of a board of commissioners.
